Our mission

To deliver fast, reliable, and affordable internet through proudly Nation-owned infrastructure that creates access, opportunity, and long-term value.

Our vision

To establish reliable fibre optic infrastructure in Northern Manitoba where customers have access and ownership to fully participate in the digital world.

Our story

Two decades in the making

PimComm did not start as a company. It started as a decision that the Nation should own the infrastructure its people depend on.

  1. 2006

The Nation chooses a different path

For decades, Cross Lake ran on internet that could not keep pace with the rest of Canada. It was slow, unreliable, and dependent on infrastructure owned and controlled by others. Pimicikamak Okimawin set its sights on building its own communications infrastructure instead of waiting for outside solutions.

  2. 2017

    PimComm is established

After years of coordination, funding applications, and strategic partnership, Pimicikamak Communications Corporation was formally established as the vehicle to deliver it. A professionally run Internet Service Provider, guided by a dedicated team committed to a rational, fact-based approach.

  3. 2021

    The backbone gets funded

Pimicikamak and Norway House Cree Nation formed a joint venture, Kici Sipi Communications Corp, and secured $27 million through Connect-to-Innovate to build the backbone fibre connecting the region to national infrastructure.

  4. 2023

    Reaching homes

Canada approved a further $16 million from the Universal Broadband Fund, allowing PimComm to advance the work and deliver high-speed internet to customers at Cross Lake.

  5. 2026

    Standing on its own

PimComm is a standalone legal entity competing with every other provider. 100% Nation-owned and operated, with the infrastructure, the team, and the mandate to serve Cross Lake on its own terms.

Our identity

Thunderbird connectivity

The Thunderbird is a powerful and respected being in Cree culture, often associated with strength, protection, and the forces of nature. It is understood as a guardian spirit, one that watches over the land and the people, carrying thunder and bringing change.

For Pimicikamak, the Thunderbird represents resilience, leadership, and the responsibility to protect and provide for the community. Its presence in the PimComm identity reflects a commitment to building strong, reliable infrastructure that serves and supports the people.

The signal

The signal elements in the logo represent connections linking homes, communities, and opportunities across Northern Manitoba.
